The Evian Championship is one of the five major golf tournaments for women on the LPGA Tour and the Ladies European Tour . This championship was founded in 1994 and has been classified as a major tournament since 2013. The tournament will be played in September in Evian-les-Bains at the Evian Resort Golf Club. With prize money of 3.85 million US dollars , it is currently the second highest endowed tournament on the LPGA Tour after the US Women's Open Golf Championship. Starting in 2019, the tournament will be held in July and the prize money will rise to 4.1 million US dollars.
The tournament was founded in 1994 as the Evian Masters and was one of the two majors of the Ladies European Tour . From 2000 the LPGA Tour also took part in the event, which meant a significant jump in the prize money. After being classified as a major, it was renamed The Evian Championship in 2013 . The championship has been held at Evian Resort Golf Club since it was founded.
