The Family Butchers (TFB) is a German company in the meat industry based in Versmold in the Gütersloh district of North Rhine-Westphalia. It was created at the beginning of 2020 from the merger of H. Kemper GmbH & Co. KG and H. & E. Reinert Westfälische Privat-Fleischerei GmbH .

Market position

The business area is the manufacture and sale of processed meat and sausage products. The greatest market strength lies in the sub-markets of cooked meat products as well as aspic and jelly made from poultry meat and in raw sausage production. While the subsidiary Kemper has specialized in the production of private labels in the low price range, Reinert is known for its own brands in the higher price ranges. The Family Butchers does not have its own slaughterhouses or cutting plants.

With a combined market share of between 10 and 20 percent, a forecast annual turnover of over 700 million euros, nine processing facilities and around 2,600 employees (as of the beginning of 2020), TFB is the second largest manufacturer of meat and sausage products in Germany behind Tönnies in several product categories -Group .

structure

The Family Butchers Holding GmbH & Co. KG is the parent company of the group . The owner families Kühnl and Reinert of the original company each hold half of the shares. The German branch of the future international company operates as The Family Butchers Germany GmbH . The managing directors are Stefan Franzke, Manfred Lehmitz, Ralf Schlangenotto, Christian Sonnenberg, Roland Verdev and Thomas Winnemöller. The chairman of the advisory board is the lawyer, management consultant and university professor Peter May .

history

In 2019, the previous competitors Kemper and Reinert decided to merge from 2019 to 2020 with effect from the turn of the year. The trigger was a long-term consolidation in the German meat industry (market leader Tönnies has taken over several competitors) and the economic effects of the swine fever , which is rampant in China, on the German market. The Federal Cartel Office approved the project in November 2019.

As early as the end of 2019, it was announced that the administration would be merged and duplicate positions would be cut after the merger, whereby one in ten of the initial 2,600 jobs will be lost in the medium term. Plans for a plant in the United States were also announced.

In February 2020 TFB launched the new “Vitulino” brand for sausage made from veal on the German market.
