The First Team

As The First Team players are referred to as the first basketball played after them the game by James Naismith , was taught in 1891, which is considered the inventor of basketball. This team includes 18 players who studied at the University of Springfield , Massachusetts to become secretaries to the YMCA's board of directors . As part of their education, they were tutored in physical education by Naismith, who allegedly invented the game to teach teamwork skills to his students. The first basketball game took place on December 21, 1891. The team was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a team during the dedication ceremony . This honored the team's achievements in increasing the popularity of basketball and the fact that the members were the first ever basketball players.
