The G-Clefs

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The G-Clefs were an American R&B vocal group.

The quintet, consisting of the brothers Teddy , Chris , Timmy and Arnold Scott and Ray Gibson , started out with gospel in the early 1950s in Roxbury , Massachusetts .

In 1956 the group got a record deal and recorded the first song "Ka-Ding Dong" ( US # 24), on which a young guitarist named Freddy Cannon made his debut. He would later become famous as a singer with songs like "Tallahassee Lassie" or "Palisade Park" .

The G-Clefs then toured the States before settling in Boston . It wasn't until 1961 that they went back to the studio and recorded the song "I Understand" , which was their first and only top ten success (US number 9, UK number 17). Then the group separated.
