The Galaxy

The Galaxy , also known as Galaxy Magazine , was an illustrated American monthly magazine published by Sheldon & Co. in New York City from 1866 to 1878 .

It was founded by journalists William Conant Church and his brother Francis Pharcellus Church . Mark Twain wrote about ten pages per issue for the twelve consecutive months from May 1870 to April 1871, except March 1871, in the Memoranda section. He also wrote three stories for the magazine, two in 1868 and one in August 1871.

When the magazine was discontinued, the subscription list was sold to Atlantic Monthly .
