The Insect Trust

The Insect Trust was a rock group in 1966 in Memphis ( Tennessee was founded). Their musical hallmark was a psychedelic mix of progressive rock , jazz , folk , blues and rock and roll that bore similarities with Fairport Convention , Janis Joplin , Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane .

Original members of the band were the singer Nancy Jeffries, Bill Barth ( guitar ), Luke Faust ( banjo , fiddle , harmonica ), Robert Palmer ( clarinet / alto saxophone ) and Trevor Koehler ( saxophone ). The band name was derived from the literary magazine The Insect Trust Gazette .

The Insect Trust recorded two albums during the short period of their existence:

  • The Insect Trust (1969) and
  • Hoboken Saturday Night (1970). On the second album, Bill Folwell was also involved as bassist and composer.

Her saxophone player Bob Palmer later became the highly respected music critic Robert Palmer , while singer Nancy Jeffries became an important manager at record labels such as A&M , Virgin and Elektra .
