The Irresponsible Captain Tylor ( Japanese 無 責任 艦長 タ イ ラ ー , Musekinin kanchō Tairā ) is the title of a Japanese anime series that consists of a 26-part television series and a ten-part OVA series. The series based on the produced light novel series Uchū Ichi no Musekinin Otoko ( 宇宙一の無責任男 ) by Hitoshi Yoshioka by several major anime studios, including Big West , Tatsunoko Productions and VAP , under the name Tylor Project occur . In 2001 a three-part manga adaptation was added.

The theme of the series is the adventures of spaceship captain Justy Ueki Tylor and the crew of his battle cruiser Soyokaze , who fight on the side of the people in the conflict against the Raalgon Empire, at the head of which is the young ruler Azalyn, who gets to know and love the chaotic captain.

Towards the end of the television series, peace returns between the two parties, but this is torpedoed by a third power operating in the background. The disputes between humans and Raalgon flare up again for a short time, but come to a standstill when the third power carries out the first military strikes. With the destruction of the now obsolete cruiser Soyokaze , which has earned the reputation of a legend in the war against the Raalgon with its crew, a basis of trust between the warring parties is finally created and a joint alliance against the new enemy is sealed.

In Japan, the television series was broadcast from January 25 to July 19, 1993 on TV Tokyo . After the broadcast, the ten-part OVA was released on DVD from October 1994 to August 1996.

Outside Japan, the series was broadcast in Latin America on Magic Kids television and in North America on AZN Television .

In Germany, the television series was not published and only became known when the first OVA episode was broadcast on the television channel VOX , which broadcast the OVA completely in the original sound with subtitles in 2006. In addition, a DVD box was released in Germany which was released by OVA Films in 2002 and which contains the OVA on three DVDs.

Manga

The three-part manga Love & War based on a story by Hitoshi Yoshioka with the graphic implementation by Kotaro Mori was published by Enterbrain between 2001 and 2002 .
