The Jarmels were an American doo-wop / rhythm and blues singing group that took their name from a street in Harlem .
history
The five members are from Richmond, Virginia . They had been singing in the same church choir there for a number of years before they formed the band. In 1961 they signed a recording deal with Laurie Records and recorded Little Lonely One with little success . In the summer of 1961 they had their only major hit with A Little Bit of Soap , which was successfully covered in 1978 by the group Showaddywaddy , among others .
