The Light is the debut album by the progressive rock band Spock's Beard . It was released in 1995.

It contains four tracks, all of which are between six and 24 minutes long according to the usual progressive rock standards. The pieces "The Light" and "The Water" are each subdivided into individual sections that show a structure within the compositions both musically and thematically. In classic long works of progressive rock such as "Supper's Ready" (1972) by Genesis or "Cygnus X-1, Book II: Hemispheres" (1978) by Rush , a comparable meaningful division is common.

Due to its reminiscent musical references, the album can be stylistically classified as retro-prog , which the group was able to further develop on the follow-up albums .
