The Magic Circle

The Magic Circle is the name of an association of magicians founded in 1905 in London , England.

history

Together with 22 other magicians, the English magician David Devant founded the Magic Circle in a London restaurant in 1905 , of which he became the first president. Up until 1991, membership was reserved exclusively for male members, until 75% of the members voted to accept women.

The magazine The Magic Circular has been published monthly since 1906 and is one of the oldest club magazines in the world.

Association headquarters

Since 1998 the club has had its own building in central London, near Euston underground station . The building houses several function rooms, including a theater, a museum, as well as club and diner rooms. In addition to the club-dependent events, the house is also available for company celebrations.

Members

Currently (2014) the association has around 1,500 members, including personalities such as Charles, Prince of Wales , David Copperfield , Siegfried and Roy and Paul Daniels .

activities

Since 1961, the association has organized the annual The Young Magician of the Year competition , in which magicians between the ages of 10 and 18 can take part. Well-known winners of these events were Johny Hart, Paul Kieve, Scott Penrose and Colin Rose.
