Newton Edward "Paul" Daniels (born April 6, 1938 in South Bank , Middlesbrough , England ; † March 17, 2016 in Wargrave , Berkshire , England) was a British magician , television presenter and author , who particularly worked in the 1970s to 1990s was one of the most famous personalities of his country.

Life

Daniels became interested in magic at the age of eleven. He soon appeared at private events and later on in front of his comrades during his military service.

In 1969 he became a full-time magician and in 1970 he took part in the talent show on the BBC program Opportunity Knocks . He took second place. The television producer Johnnie Hamp then became aware of Daniels and used him regularly in the program The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club . In 1979 Daniels got his own show, The Paul Daniels Magic Show , which was broadcast regularly on six Friday evenings up to 1994. There were extra shows (specials) at Easter and Christmas.

Parallel to his own shows, he was also known as a presenter of other programs. In his magic broadcasts, Daniels coined the phrase Not a lot (You'll like this - not a lot), which became a catchphrase in England.

On February 20, 2016, the family announced on Paul Daniels' Facebook page that he had an incurable brain tumor. He died of this around a month later, on March 17, 2016, at the age of 77.
