The Marketts

The Marketts (in the 1970s "The New Marketts") were an American surf band from Los Angeles , California that was active between 1961 and 1977. With the instrumental piece Out of Limits they reached number 3 on the US Billboard charts in 1964.

biography

The producer Joe Saraceno , who worked for "Liberty Records" in the early 1960s and produced bands such as Ventures , among others , published under the name The Marketts primarily surf rock recordings with various studio musicians. The main participants include Tommy Tedesco , Mike Gordon and Ben Benay ( guitar ), Mike Henderson ( saxophone ), Gene Pello ( drums ), Ray Pohlman ( e-bass ) and Richard Hobriaco and later Tom Hensey ( piano ).

Before the Marketts became known for the surf hit Out of Limits , the band had two smaller hits with the singles Surfer's Stomp and Balboa Blue from 1962. They later also released instrumental pieces that must be categorized as rock, space age pop and easy listening genres. The band reached the top 20 on the Billboard charts again in early 1966 with the Batman theme .
