Anne Bonnet

Anne Bonnet , actually Anne Thonet (born May 16, 1908 in Brussels , Belgium ; † November 14, 1960 there ), was a Belgian painter . She was an important representative of abstract painting in the 1950s with international recognition.

biography

Anne Bonnet was born as Anne Thonet and was orphaned at 17. From 1924 to 1926 she studied art at the Académie de Bruxelles . After her marriage, she continued her studies from 1936 to 1938 at the Académie de Saint-Josse-ten-Noode (Brussels). There she met the artists Gaston Bertrand and Louis Van Lint , with whom she would work all her life.

In 1945 Anne Thonet co-founded, together with Gaston Bertrand , Jan Cox , Louis Van Lint , Marc Mendelson , James Ensor and others, of the foundation " La Jeune Peinture Belge " (or: " Jonge Belgische Schilderkunst "), which had the task of to enable young Belgian artists to take part in important exhibitions at home and abroad. Exhibitions have been organized (among others) in: Amsterdam , Bordeaux , Brussels , Stockholm , and Zurich .

In 1952 she and others founded the artist group Espace , an association of Belgian abstract artists . Anne Thonet took part in documenta II in Kassel in 1959 .
