La Jeune Peinture Belge

La Jeune Peinture Belge ( French for young Belgian painting ) was a Belgian artists' association.

La Jeune Peinture Belge was founded in Brussels on July 3, 1945 by young Belgian artists such as René Barbaix , Gaston Bertrand , Jan Cox , Louis Van Lint , Anne Bonnet , Marc Mendelson and others. The co-founders and members included not only artists, but also industrialists and lawyers. Other members were, for example, James Ensor , Jan Burssens and Pierre Alechinsky .

The aim of Jeune Peinture Belge was to enable young Belgian artists to take part in important exhibitions at home and abroad and to promote their work. There were exhibitions u. a. organized in Amsterdam , Bordeaux , Brussels , Stockholm and Zurich .

The group did not have a uniform art style: from post- expressionism to abstract art in all forms of expression - lyrical abstraction , geometric abstraction - everything was represented.

The group officially existed under this name until 1948. In 1950, a new association was founded as “La Jeune Peinture Belge - Fondation René Lust” , which holds the annual award of the “Prix Jeune Peinture Belge” (for painting ) and every three years took over the award of the “Prix Jeune Sculpture Belge” (for sculpture ).
