The Mormons (dt .: The Mormon ) is a four-hour documentary of the television station Public Broadcasting Service , about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints . The documentary aired on April 30th and May 1st, 2007. It was produced by Helen Whitney .

The first part is about the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints . It is about the story of Joseph Smith . The First Vision is told of how the angel Moroni brought the gold plates to Joseph Smith. Then there is anti-Mormonism and polygamy . This is followed by a report on the Utah War .
The second part is about today's Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints . It shows missionaries of the Church and how to deal with critics of Mormonism . Then it comes to dealing with homosexuality in the church. At the end it goes about the women in the church.
Reviews
The New York Times wrote about the documentary: “However, the portrayal of today's church, which according to the documentary has 12 million members, is very impressive.” On the other hand, the Boston Globe criticized the documentary: “ The Mormons is full of informed interlocutors . These are church historians, journalists, and church elders, and a gathering of happy Mormons. It would be good if Mormons could be distinguished from non-Mormons. Mitt Romney is shown briefly, but he did not want to participate in the documentary. " Reuters wrote of the documentary:" If there is a weak point in this very informative and viewable documentary, it is the time that is used to shed light on the Mormon missionaries and dealing with critics of the church. However, this is brilliant work on an interesting subject. ” The Nation was disappointed with this documentary.
