The Mount is a sprawling property in Shrewsbury and is officially called Mount House . It was the birthplace of the British naturalist and co-founder of the theory of evolution, Charles Darwin .

The large estate was built in 1800 by local doctor Robert Darwin , and Charles Darwin was born there on February 12, 1809 . Robert Darwin died in the house on November 13, 1848, and in 1866 the house was auctioned off by the three surviving children.

In 1996, The Mount Residents' Group was founded to protect the property from a development project, and it succeeded.
