The O'Kanes
The country duo The O'Kanes was founded in 1986 by Kieran Kane and Jamie O'Hara . Both musicians were previously successful as songwriters. Kieran Kane had already released a few singles.
In 1986 a demo tape was put together in their own studio. Kane and O'Hara then got a contract with the Columbia label. As a duo The O'Kanes they produced a first album of the same name, largely taking over the demo. The high musical quality convinced critics and audience alike. Several successful singles have been released, including the number 1 hit Can't Stop My Heart From Loving You .
The next album Tired Of The Runnin ' was also quite successful, including two single releases. In 1988 the O'Kanes received a CMA Award Vocal Duo of the Year . Two years later, a third album was released, but it could not build on the earlier successes. The record company then canceled the contract. Kane and O'Hara separated in friendship and released solo albums. Kane then worked with Kevin Welch and became a member of the Dead Reckoners .
The music of the O'Kanes is very reminiscent of The Everly Brothers . Her unobtrusive harmony singing was perfectly matched to the soft guitar and mandolin music.
