The Old Den (actually The Den ) was the football stadium of the London football club Millwall from 1910 to 1993 . After the construction of the new venue, The New Den , it was demolished. It was in the Lewisham district .

history

The opening and the first game took place on October 22, 1910 between Millwall FC and Brighton & Hove Albion (0-1). The system held up to 50,000 spectators at peak times. The attendance record dates back to 1937. The game Millwall FC against Derby County gathered 48,672 spectators in the stadium. In the Second World War was The Den badly damaged. A bomb burned the main and north stands. In 1948 the main stand was rebuilt. It was the only tier of the stadium with seats and a complete roof.

Originally it was planned to convert the stadium into a purely seated stadium, but this plan was discarded in favor of a new building on a larger area. Today there are houses on the site of the old stadium. The neighborhood is known as Little Millwall by residents .
