FA Amateur Cup
The FA Amateur Cup was an English football cup competition for amateur clubs. The cup was played from 1893 to 1974.
history
After the legalization of professional playing in 1885, clear differences in performance between the professional and amateur clubs that met in the FA Cup soon became noticeable . For this reason, Sheffield FC proposed in 1892 that another cup competition be introduced especially for amateur clubs. The request was initially rejected by the English Football Association , but was implemented a year later.
A total of 71 events were held; the competition was paused during the First and Second World Wars . The record winner is FC Bishop Auckland with ten successes in 18 finals. The last time the cup was played in 1973/74, with the abolition of the amateur term by the FA, the competition was also discontinued. The successor competitions are the FA Trophy , which was introduced in 1969, and the FA Vase , which was launched in 1974 .
