description

The Roundel dates from the 16th century. In the course of the following century the building was expanded and stabilized in 1975. A brief archaeological examination in the course of the restoration in 2014 revealed that a predecessor structure may have existed at the site.

The three story building is at the head of South Street ( A918 ) in St Andrews' historic center. Its south-facing quarry stone facade is five axes wide. In the center is the ornamented entrance door, which was designed around 1680. A rounded stair tower with a stone balustrade at the end emerges on the right. There is a pointed arch portal at its foot . In the interior there are vaulted ceilings at ground level .
