Career

The Rowan Brothers

The brothers Lorin and Chris Rowan are originally from Boston, Massachusetts . Musically shaped initially by the rock 'n' roll era and then influenced by the Beatles and Bob Dylan , they began as rock and pop musicians. They have often been compared to the Everly Brothers , not least because of their good looks.

Her older brother Peter had already developed into one of the most famous bluegrass musicians in the USA by this time . His companion, the also very famous mandolin player David Grisman , brought the Rowan Brothers to San Francisco and produced the album The Rowan Brothers with them .

Through their brother and Chrisman, Lorin and Chris quickly found their way into the Californian folk rock scene. A first highlight was their participation in the last concert of the Fillmore West in 1971 , where they appeared as the opening act for the Grateful Dead .

The Rowans

After her producer David Chrisman left the record company, her career initially stalled. Together with her famous brother Peter Rowan, three albums were recorded in the following years under the name The Rowans . Influenced by Peter, Chris and Lorin moved a little away from their melodic folk rock and approached a progressive bluegrass . Public appearances were often denied without Peter Rowan.

All three brothers wrote a large part of their songs themselves. Many of their pieces were taken over by other performers. During their studio recordings, they were assisted by the best folk rock and bluegrass folk in California , including Jerry Garcia and David Chrisman.

In addition to their work as a duo or trio, they have been involved in various other projects. Lorin released several solo albums. In 1994 the three brothers got together again and recorded the bluegrass album Tree on a Hill as Peter Rowan and The Rowan Brothers . In 2005 the musically diversified double CD Now and Then was released , which contains current songs as well as unpublished material and live recordings.
