Anna Lee grew up in a house with a single mother who was very sexually negative and she struggled with her sexuality. Her doctor refers her to Whitney and Gaige who practice an "unconventional" type of sex therapy, and she checks into her retreat, the Variel House.

There she has to do a series of "tasks" that are supposed to set free her sexuality. Eventually she is matched with another "patient", Emmett, to do her chores together. Deeply drawn to him, Anne Lee finds herself fantasizing about Emmett and falling in love with him. But he's afraid of connecting with another person and suddenly leaves before their job is finished. However, when Anna Lee leaves Variel House, she asks that the video journal she was required to keep be sent to Emmett. He's so touched by what she shared with him that he's looking for her, and the film ends with them loving each other.
