The Sirens Records

The Sirens Records is an American blues , gospel and jazz label that is particularly dedicated to the Chicago music scene .

The Sirens Records was founded in 1975 by Steven Dolins, who had already released music by Chicago boogie-woogie pianist Erwin Helfer as a teenager . After his studies at Tulane University in New Orleans, he worked at Jazz Record Mart of Delmark Records - Chef Bob Koester . His own label's first release was an anthology called Primitive Piano , which featured piano music by Speckled Red , Billie Pierce and others. a. and had previously appeared on Erwin Helfer's short-lived record label Tone . The second Sirens release ( Heavy Timbre ) included recordings by Chicago blues greats such as Willie Mabon , Sunnyland Slim , Jimmy Walker , Blind John Davis and Erwin Helfer. After working for Texas Instruments in Dallas for several years, Dolins returned to the Chicago area in 1989. In 2000 he reactivated his label with publications a. a. by Pinetop Perkins and Barrelhouse Chuck.
