history

The newspaper was registered on May 11, 2010 and the first edition appeared on August 4, 2010. As of May 2011, Sheriff Bojang , the former managing director of the Observer Company ( The Daily Observer ), is the managing director . At that time there were 12 full-time employees and freelancers. Bojang wanted to launch The Standard as a new daily newspaper that would also quickly build a large readership.

The Standard was shut down by the Yahya Jammeh government in September 2012 , likely because of official disapproval of reporting on the 2012 executions , but was allowed to resume publication in January 2014.

With the appointment as Minister for Information and Communication Infrastructure, Bojang left the standard in January 2015 .
