The Tams

The Tams was an American vocal group that enjoyed mostly the United States in the 1960s and the UK in the 1970s .

Band history

Charles Pope († 2013), Joseph Pope, Robert Smith and Horace Key already knew each other from school in Atlanta , Georgia . To escape the poverty in the ghetto, they decided to make a career with black music . Floyd Ashton joined them.

They worked on their stage appearance with great perseverance, rehearsing their songs incessantly, slowly working their way from small pubs to big clubs and finally got a record deal in 1962 . Untie Me was the name of their first hit single, which reached number 60 on the US charts .

From 1964 they were regularly represented in the charts and also impressed with their colorful outfits. They last appeared in the mid-1980s.
