The Ultimate in Lightwater Valley ( Ripon , North Yorkshire , UK ) is a steel roller coaster that opened on July 17, 1991. It is currently the longest roller coaster in Europe and the second longest in the world after Steel Dragon 2000 . Until 2001 it was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest steel roller coaster in the world .
The approximately 2268 m long route, which extends over an area of 178,000 m², has three lift hills , of which the first reaches a height of 31 m and the second 33 m. The third and about 3 m high lift hill leads back into the station. The supports of the first two liftills are made of wood, although it is a steel roller coaster. Apart from the first two lift hills, the route runs directly on the ground and uses the slightly hilly terrain. The track is outside the park area and is hardly visible due to its low profile.
Big Country Motioneering constructed the train, but does not put ready, because the owner of Lightwater Valley, the construction of engineers from British Rail handed. Some parts of the second half of the route were redesigned, especially the incline . The rails themselves were made by Tubular Engineering .
