The Voices of East Harlem

The Voices of East Harlem were an American R'n'B and gospel vocal group that were founded in the early 1970s in Harlem , New York . The group had up to 20 members.

The Voices of East Harlem included lead singers Gerri Griffin and Monica Burress as well as Bernard Graham, Wayne Garfield, Jerome Mack, Elaine Clark, Cynthia Sessions, Kevin Griffin and Claudia Moore. The members were between 12 and 21 years old.

Outstanding events in their band history were their appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970; and two years later her participation in the musical film workshop Sing Sing Thanksgiving together with BB King and Joan Baez .

For their most successful LP The Voices of East Harlem (1973), the group worked with producers Leroy Hutson and Curtis Mayfield .
