The Wanderers were a short-lived punk band around Stiv Bators and members of Sham 69 .

Band history

After Sham 69 broke up in 1980, Dave Parsons (guitar), Dave Tregenna (bass) and Ricky Rock (drums) decided to continue making music together. Together with Stiv Bators (ex- Dead Boys ), who had just released his solo album Disconnected , they first founded The Allies and renamed themselves The Wanderers in 1981. One album was completed in 1980; publication was still a long time coming. The English press liked to call the band Dead 69 or Sham Boys to refer to the origins of the band members.

In March 1981, the first single Ready to Snap ( B-side : Beyond the Law ) was released, and the band performed at London's Lyceum Theater . On May 18, the debut album Only Lovers Left Alive was released . The concept album told the story of ex- CIA agent Peter Beter , who allegedly made secret information available on tapes, from the perspective of a teenager. He finds the tapes, fights against the system and becomes part of it in the end. The album consisted of 12 songs, on the back cover also the text of the song They Made Me Criminal was printed, which did not appear on the album. The album received positive reviews from Sounds magazine , while Record Mirror reacted rather cautiously. On July 18, 1981, the Bob-Dylan - cover version The Times They Are A-Changin ' (B-side: It's a Little Bit Frightening ) was the last single.

The sales expectations of the record company Polydor Records were not met, a self-financed US tour was unsuccessful. When Dave Parsons finally contracted hepatitis and had health problems, the band broke up. Stiv Bators and Dave Tregenna founded The Lords of the New Church and Ricky Rock joined the cover band The Bootleg Beatles . After his recovery, Rick Parsons played for Framed and later participated in a Sham 69 reunion.
