The Wilderness Society is an American organization that cares for the conservation of America's wilderness areas. Founded in 1935, the organization has more than 300,000 members.

The society was founded on January 21, 1935 by Bob Marshall , Aldo Leopold , Robert Sterling Yard , Benton MacKaye , Ernest Oberholtzer , Harvey Broome , Bernard Frank and Harold C. Anderson on the premises of the Cosmos Club .
