The Woman in White is a musical loosely based on the novel The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins , who appeared 1860th The music is by Andrew Lloyd Webber , the lyrics by David Zippel and the book by Charlotte Jones. The world premiere took place on September 15, 2004 at the Palace Theater in London . Production ran through February 25, 2006. The Broadway premiere was on November 17, 2005 at the Uris Theater. Both productions were directed by Trevor Nunn .

Michael Crawford made his comeback in London's West End with this piece , having previously played Count of Krolock in Dance of the Vampires , the Broadway version of Dance of the Vampires .

The plot is based on the novel. The drawing teacher Walter Hartright meets a mysterious woman on his way to his two new students, the half-sisters Marian and Laura. Arriving at Marian and Laura, he notices that Laura looks very similar to the mysterious woman. He falls in love with Laura. However, she is engaged to the unlikable person in the story, Sir Percival Glyde. This forces her to enter into marriage contracts, the content of which Laura does not know. Again and again the mysterious woman tries to intervene in the action. Among other things, she tries to prevent Laura and Glyde from getting married. When a certain Count Fosco comes into play, new truths gradually come to light.
