Theagenes of Rhegion

Theagenes of Rhegion (Greek Θεαγένης ὁ Ῥηγῖνος Theagénēs ) was a Greek poet of the 6th century BC. Chr. From the city of Rhegium . According to a note in an Iliad - Scholion by the Neo-Platonist Porphyrios , he is considered to be the founder of allegorical Homerexegesis . By means of metaphorical interpretation, he sought to withdraw the archaic, anthropomorphic gods of Homer from a new rationalistic-Enlightenment critique. His works are lost.
