The Theater am Markt (TAM) is a free theater in Eisenach in Thuringia .
history
The Theater am Markt has existed since November 2008. The former theater education center at the State Theater in Eisenach was closed in the course of various savings and restructuring measures. The actors involved, led by the theater founders Timo Bamberger and Marcus Coenen, converted two former restaurants not far from the Eisenach market square into a theater with up to 50 seats and found a new sponsor for the project in the Stadtjugendring Eisenach eV.
At the end of 2012, the theater ran into a financial bottleneck and worried about its continued existence with an annual budget of around 100,000 euros. In December 2015, the ensemble members founded the independent association "Theater am Markt Eisenach eV", which has been the sponsor since January 1st, 2017.
meaning
The theater on the market describes itself as a so-called citizens' theater . Amateur actors of different generations, professions and socio-cultural backgrounds do not only volunteer under professional guidance as actors, but also in all other areas of a professional cultural establishment. The result was a mixture of professional and amateur theater for children, young people and adults.
Everyone involved shapes the aesthetic direction.
repertoire
The theater plays well-known classical and contemporary plays. In 2017, there were stagings of truffle pigs by Kristo Šagor , Das Wirtshaus im Spessart by Wilhelm Hauff , Der Auditor by Nikolai Gogol , Wolf sein by Bettina Wegenast, Cato by Karlheinz Weber and The God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza .
