Theater in the depot
The Theater im Depot is a theater in Dortmund . It was founded in January 2001 and is located in the Immermannstrasse depot , a former tram depot . The theater is under the direction of Jens Dornheim and is supported by the Association for the Promotion of Independent Theater Work in Dortmund . As an off-theater, the focus is on in-house productions and the promotion of up-and-coming artists.
history
In 1996, a provisional venue was built for the theater in the depot on Immermannstrasse, so that regular performance could begin in May 1996 with the “Springflut” festival. It was only officially opened as a permanent venue in 2001 and from now on offers space for 250 spectators.
Today ten employees work for the theater, who are responsible for around ten in-house productions and around 120 events annually. In addition to the productions, there are regular festivals of the independent theater scene in North Rhine-Westphalia. There is also a theater and dance workshop for young people, which was awarded the 2nd prize in the Jugend.Kultur.Preis.NRW in 2012.
Location
In addition to the theater, the listed art and culture center of the city of Dortmund houses the “sweet sixteen” cinema, several artists' studios and a gallery . As a former industrial facility, the theater in the depot is also the venue for ExtraSchicht .
