Theo Schmidhauser (born January 23, 1959 in St. Gallen ) is a Swiss sports bowler. Between 1977 and 1993 he was a total of 20 Swiss champions and 9 vice Swiss champions in various disciplines. In 1983, at the age of 24, he was also the youngest Swiss individual champion of all time.

Sports career

Schmidhauser started in 1977 at the age of 18 in category 4 and was trained by his father. The first two years were accompanied by many failures. Schmidhauser trained a lot and tried again and again to improve his performance with unconventional methods.

In 1980 he had his real breakthrough in category 3. This year he achieved no fewer than 50 category victories and also made people sit up and take notice with his results in the upper categories. He managed to win the tournament three times out of category 3, something that a bowling player has never achieved before. From then on it went very steeply: 1981 in category 2 54 category victories and vice Swiss champion and 2nd in the Swiss Individual Cup. Also in 1981 Schmidhauser qualified for the strong St. Gallen Canton team and was immediately rewarded with the silver medal. From this year on he was a member of this successful canton team 10 times without interruption and was no less than 5 times Swiss cantons champion.

His sports career was crowned in 1983 with the Swiss individual champion in Winterthur and that at his 1st Swiss championship in category 1. 1985 (Swiss championships only take place every two years) Schmidhauser was then also the first sports bowler who was able to defend his title in the top division.

In 1984 Schmidhauser obtained the training manager diploma at the Federal Sports School in Magglingen.
