Theobald of Montlhéry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Theobald ( lat. Theobaldus cognomina Filans-stupas , French. Thibaud File Étoupe de Montlhéry , * 10th century; † 11th century) was a lord of Montlhéry and Bray-sur-Seine and the progenitor of the House of Montlhéry .

Theobald is mentioned in the Historia Francorum of Aimoin de Fleury , who called him "filans stupas", which means something like " tow head " in relation to his hair. Aimoin also reports that Theobald served the kings Hugo Capet and Robert II the pious as forest rangers ("Forestarius"). Probably around the year 990 he built the castle on the Montemlethericum , with which he should secure the royal domain against the neighboring powerful Counts of Blois .

Theobald's son and heir was Guido I.
