The Theobaldikapelle is a Protestant church in the Nöschenrode district of the city of Wernigerode in Saxony-Anhalt .

history

It is said that Count Heinrich von Wernigerode had the Theobaldikapelle built on the outskirts of Nöschenrode in 1400 as an atonement chapel for the breach of the peace committed by Count Dietrich in 1386. This is confirmed in a document from 1403, although the building findings indicate a higher age. The chapel was named after St. Theobald von Thann , who was referred to as Theobaldus episcopus et confessor in letters of indulgence in 1403 and 1405 .

Furnishing

Inside the chapel is richly decorated. The barrel vault is painted with angels, sky and clouds. The late Gothic carved altar with decorations dates from the second half of the 15th century, the galleries decorated with biblical drawings and the carved pulpit are elaborately designed. The ceiling and wall paintings date from 1636 and were executed by the artist Michael Sperling. The organ case dates from 1652; the interior has been renewed several times over the years. The bell tower was built in 1710 from Rogenstein on the side of the chapel facing the street. It was unplastered until the early 2000s.
