Theodor Brauer (politician)

Theodor Brauer (born April 12, 1949 in Kleve ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 2004 to 2015 he was mayor of the city of Kleve.

Life

From 1955, Brauer attended elementary school in Kellen , then the grammar schools in Gaesdonck and Kleve, where he passed the Abitur in 1970. He then worked for a year in the financial administration of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. From 1971 to 1974 he studied at the Pedagogical University of Rhineland in Neuss , majoring in German, economics and theology. In 1974 he passed the first state examination and then did his legal clerkship in Xanten until 1975 . This was followed by the second state examination. Since then, until his election as mayor, he worked as a teacher at the Ringschule Kleve, a school for people with learning disabilities.

Brauer joined the CDU in 1980 and became chairman of the CDU local association Kellen in 1982, which he remained until 1986. From 1984 to 1989 and then again since 1994, Brauer has been represented on the Kleve City Council. From 1992 to 2005 he was chairman of the CDU city association Kleve and since 1995 he has been deputy chairman of the CDU district association Kleve. Brauer has been a member of the Kleve district council since 1999. After he was elected deputy mayor of the city of Kleve in 1994, he was elected mayor of the city of Kleve in the 2004 local elections. In the mayoral election in 2009, Brauer was confirmed in office. With 54.35 percent of the vote, Brauer prevailed against his fiercest rival Josef Gietemann ( SPD ), who received 24.66 percent of the vote. He did not run for the 2015 local elections.
