Theodor Fliedner Foundation

The Theodor Fliedner Foundation ( sic ) is a foundation under private law with a focus on care for the elderly, sick and handicapped people with its headquarters in Mülheim an der Ruhr .

history

The facility goes back to the Protestant pastor Theodor Fliedner , who founded a “pastoral assistant and deacon institution” in Duisburg in 1844 . After four years the facility was transformed into the independent foundation "Diakonenanstalt Duisburg" . The aim of the foundation was the training of auxiliary deacons and home managers as well as u. a. Nurses and social workers. The Hamburg theologian Johann Hinrich Wichern , who founded the Rauhes Haus children's and youth home in Hamburg in 1833 and trained helpers and educators for social work there, provided a model and inspiration for the foundation .

Over the years the foundation expanded its areas of activity and took over a. the management of institutions and activities in addiction work, disease control and internal mission . In 1973 the foundation was renamed Theodor Fliedner Werk in memory of its founder , and in July 2001 it was renamed Theodor Fliedner Foundation .

Today's Theodor Fliedner Foundation, with its more than 2,000 employees, supports people with very different needs: Under the key concepts of normality, individuality and participation, it is involved in elderly care, in assisting people with disabilities, in psychiatry and psychotherapy as well as in training and research and teaching. The foundation offers outpatient, partial inpatient and inpatient services at over 30 locations nationwide. As a Protestant foundation, it belongs to Diakonie in Germany and is a member of all diaconal organizations of the Protestant regional churches in whose field it is active.
