Theodore of Rostov

Theodor I was the first or second bishop of Rostov around 992 and before 1010. He is venerated as a saint in the Russian Orthodox Church . His feast day is June 8th .

Theodore probably came from the Byzantine Empire . Around 990 or 992 he was Bishop of Rostov. Theodore was soon expelled by the local "pagan" population. Maybe he went to Suzdal .

Around 1010 he worked again under Prince Boris in Rostov. After his death he had to leave the city again and went to Suzdal again. He died before 1024.
