Theodor Thanner

Theodor Thanner (born February 9, 1960 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian lawyer and head of the federal competition authority .

Career

Thanner attended the Academic Gymnasium Salzburg and graduated in 1978. After studying law in Salzburg , he received his doctorate in 1982. He then began his professional career in the provincial service in the office of the then Salzburg Governor Hans Katschthaler . From there, he first moved to the Ministry of Defense and then to the Ministry of the Interior , where he was Head of the Interior Minister's Cabinet from 2000 to 2005. In 2005 he became head of the legal section and in 2007 he succeeded Walter Barfuß as general director of the federal competition authority. He has been Director General for Competition in his third term since 2017.

Thanner is the author of several legal books and articles, publisher of the Austrian magazine for cartel law and currently legal protection officer in the Ministry of the Interior.
