Theodosiopolis in the Osrhoene

Theodosiopolis was an ancient city ​​in the Osrhoene on the site of today's Raʾs al-ʿAin in Syria .

It was about 40 miles from the fortress Dara , was elevated to a city by Theodosius I in 383 and further fortified by Justinian I. Theodosiopolis was several times the scene of battles between the Sassanid Empire and Eastern Current and the seat of a bishop (cf. also Prokopios , De aed. , 2,6,13ff.).
