Theophilus Cibber

Theophilus Cibber (born November 26, 1703 , † 1758 ) was an English actor and author.

Lives of the Poets of Great Britain and Ireland, to the Time of Dean Swift ( 1753 ) is his best-known work to this day, although his authorship was already controversial during his lifetime. Samuel Johnson attributed it in part to Robert Shiel . Other parts of the text are taken from older works by Gerard Langbaine and Giles Jacob .
