Theoretical geophysics
The Theoretical Geophysics explores the basics of geophysics and teach them to the geoscientific institutes of the universities .
Important research areas include:
- Introduction of new knowledge in mathematics and physics in the earth sciences
- Theoretical principles of the potential method (physical fields in general, gravity and magnetic fields, electrical potential)
- Structure of the earth's interior , especially the upper mantle , wave propagation in seismology
- Boundary value problems and use of gravimetry to determine the crust thickness and the large-scale shell structure of the earth.
- Cross-links to astronomy ( earth as a planet ) and geodesy (aspects of the reference systems , basic coordinate systems , etc.)
