The Quitmannsturm in Neuenrade

The Quitmannsturm (often - probably incorrectly - written Quittmannsturm ) is a lookout tower on the Kohlberg in Neuenrade . It was donated in 1893 by the sons of the Neuenrad teacher Carl Friedrich Quitmann who had emigrated to England . However, the construction was not without problems. Even before the planned inauguration, a winter storm destroyed the tower in 1893. Construction work began again. The 14 meter high tower was built by Krupp Brüninghaus GmbH . The base of the tower is at a height of approx. 511 m above sea level, the viewing platform at around 524 m above sea level. In 1986 the tower was renewed by the city of Neuenrade.

The easiest way to get there is via the “Quitmannsturm” car park. The long-distance hiking trail " Sauerland-Höhenflug " has been passing the tower since July 2008 , as have other hiking trails.

From the Quitmmansturm the view extends over Neuenrade far to the east into the Lennegebirge and the Hochsauerland as well as to the south into the Ebbegebirge . In the southwest, larches block the view. In the north and west, the view encompasses the nearby valleys and ridges of the Iserlohner Höhe with parts of the villages of Dahle and Evingsen .
