Therapy with nasal insufflation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TNI (therapy with nasal insufflation) is the name under which the Würzburg company TNI medical AG has been selling devices for breathing support since 2006. The devices are set up at home and produce a warm, humidified air stream through a nasal cannula is blown into the nose. The manufacturer recommends its procedure for mild to moderate forms of sleep apnea , moderate COPD illnesses and snoring . The costs are currently not reimbursed by the German statutory health insurance companies.

Tests on individual subjects and small groups have shown that the supply of the air flow should lead to a measurable increase in pressure between 2 and 4 mbar in the upper airways and increase PEEP by approx. 1–2 mbar. This is said to have a positive effect on obstructive sleep apnea.

So far, no randomized studies or studies with large numbers of patients have been published.
