Theremincello, 1930

The theremincello is an electronic musical instrument and a variant of the theremin . It was developed in the 1930s by the Russian physicist Leon Theremin (Lev Sergejewitsch Termen).

The Theremincello is based on a traditional cello . Instead of strings, it has a flexible black plastic film as a fingerboard that regulates the pitch. The volume is changed via a lever on the body. In addition, the Theremincello has two rotary controls to change the timbre .

development

Since the theremin has no physical reference values and is therefore extremely difficult to play, the further development of the theremincello was obvious, especially for a trained cellist like Lev Termen.
