General view of the new Theresienwarte

The Theresienwarte is a lookout point near Baden on the south-eastern edge of the Vienna Woods . It offers a good view of Baden and the southern Vienna Basin .

location

The Theresienwarte stands on the Hühnerberg, also called Richtberg, in the upper spa gardens of Baden north of the city. Its name goes back to the giant Hun, who is said to have founded it in Baden. The highest gallows in Lower Austria, which was demolished in 1788, was located on the mountain.

history

Today's Theresienwarte is already the second observation tower on the Hühnerberg.

Old Theresienwarte

The first tower built in 1884 goes back to Theresia Göschl, who financed the construction. This 16 meter high control room was renewed in 1912 and 1980. In autumn 2014, the 34-year-old wooden structure was demolished due to extensive damage to the wood for safety reasons; a re-erection was decided at the municipal council meeting on March 24, 2015.

New Theresienwarte

After initial delays in the start of construction, which was originally planned for 2015, the newly constructed Theresienwarte, also made of wood, was inaugurated in March 2016. It is now clad all around with lamellas and with a total height of 18.48 m, a few meters higher than the previous control room. Your viewing platform is 17.28 m high and is freely accessible except in the winter months.
