Thermal Imaging Stand-Alone System

The Thermal Imaging Stand-Alone System (TISAS) is a military thermal imaging device from the Israeli company Elbit .

The TISAS was designed as a retrofit device for older Soviet battle tanks such as the T-55 , T-72 , T-80 and T-90 , which (sometimes more than 50 years after their commissioning) are (still) in large numbers internationally Use are. The system is designed in such a way that it can be relatively easily exchanged for the existing telescopic sights or fire control devices and completely replaced. The stand alone in the name refers to the ability to work independently of existing electronics or interfaces.

The system has a modular structure and consists of a high-performance thermal imaging device, a digital fire control computer and the corresponding screens for the commander and gunner .

States of operations

The TISAS is used by the Indian Army in their T-72. In 2001 300 TISAS were procured for the approximately 1,600 T-72 tanks.
