The Theron Mountains are a mountain range in the East Antarctic Coatsland . With heights of up to 1175 m , they extend northeast-southwest over a length of 45 km on the eastern edge of the Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf .
They were spotted for the first time during a flyover by participants in the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958) led by British polar explorer Vivian Fuchs . They are named after the Theron ship that was used on this research trip .
