Theutbirg basilica
The Teutbirg or Theutbirg basilica is a ruined church in Wetzlar , on the southern city limits outside the Nauborn district. Only the foundation walls that were discovered in a forest in Siebenmühlental near the Dickesmühle are preserved . The ruin is protected as a registered cultural monument .
history
The church of the Theutbirg or Teutbirg in loco qui dicitur Nivora was first mentioned in 778, but it was built well before 778. The church will likely have existed until the turn of the 9th century. The remains of the wall were only discovered in 1927. In addition to bones, some broken vessels from the period between 700 and 780 and an iron ax were found in the associated cemetery.
